Poly Leader Visits Exactech to Share Insights on Material Advancements in Orthopedics

We were pleased to welcome Steven Kurtz, Ph.D., Founder and CEO of Gyroid LLC, to Exactech today where he delivered an insightful presentation on advancements in orthopedic bearings and additive PEEK. 

His visit was an important opportunity for our teams to learn from one of the foremost experts in the field of medical device technology and engage in discussions about the latest innovations shaping the industry.

A Leader in Medical Innovation 

Dr. Kurtz brings a wealth of experience to the table, with a career spanning over 28 years in the evaluation of medical device technologies. With a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, he has established himself as a leader in the field of additive manufacturing, particularly in the realm of medical devices. Currently, Dr. Kurtz serves as the director of the Implant Research Core and a part-time research professor at Drexel University’s School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems.  

Dr. Kurtz is highly active in professional societies, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Society for Testing and Materials. He is a prolific author and editor, contributing to more than 200 journal articles, 460 conference abstracts and numerous books, including the highly regarded UHMWPE Biomaterials Handbook and the Medical PEEK Lexicon.
